Tillage Brand™ Cover Crops

We select cover crop varieties from the farmer's point of view, as well as the scientist's.

We use the term "Tillage" to mean cover crops with roots and root systems that grow especially deep into the soil, deeper than other varieties in that species.

Because we have been no-till farmers for decades, we believe nature has ways to build soil down where steel cannot reach. However, cover crops are highly effective with all types of cultivation and farming techniques.

That's why the Tillage Radish is the only cover crop radish with the single highly aggressive taproot that penetrates compaction layers.

Tillage RootMax™ is a special annual ryegrass variety with roots that grow up to 80% deeper than many other varieties, and with uniform stand maturity for easier burn down.

Tillage Max™ Blends combine these specialty cover crops to serve different purposes, depending on what you want to accomplish in your soil.

Increased Yields

Increased Yields

Cover crops have been proven to increase yields in university studies as well as in replicated farm research on real-world field plots.
Improved Soil Fertility

Improved Soil Fertility

Soil is alive, and cover crops are an increasingly popular way to keep it healthy. We like to say, "Soil is meant to be covered!"
Reduced Input

Reduced Input

Cover crops help reduce the need for N and other nutrients, and create a healthier soil environment that resists disease and pests.
Weed Control

Weed Control

Cover crops can inhibit weed growth by shading them out, by preventing emergence, and by compounds exuded by the roots.
Nematode Control

Nematode Control

Certain cover crops are shown to reduce populations of pathogenic nematodes and encourage populations of beneficial ones.
Reduced Compaction

Reduced Compaction

Cover crops, especially deep-rooted ones, break up soil compaction whether it is naturally occurring or a result of heavy cultivation and tillage.
Increased Water Retention

Increased Water Retention

Cover crops add diversity to the natural biological life in heavily farmed soils, often working in synergy with cash crops for bottom line benefits.
